CEO
Lauren has been at the helm of YoungCapital since 2024. His focus and drive? “To really give all young people who want to work the opportunity to do so. Every single day. Because if you work, you participate. And with the current challenges in the labor market and the well-being of young people, that may be even more important than ever. The youth has the future.” That is why, under his leadership, we are fully committed to the power of these new generations. We immerse ourselves in their (digital) world. A switch that Lauren himself initiated earlier at DPG. That is also his goal here. To be at the forefront of the market. In order to help all young people find work.
The statements “Turn your boomer into your bestie” and “Work needs young energy” are close to the heart of Lauren van der Heijden, CEO of YoungCapital. What bias do you have? Are you aware of the generational differences in the workplace? And how connected are you to the younger generation within your company?
Lauren van der Heijden will take you through the Boost Your Boomer campaign of the largest online youth employment agency in the Netherlands. Although this campaign has a satirical approach, there is a clear message behind it: Companies cannot ignore Generation Z if they want to remain future-proof. In fact, in times of transition, the Dutch business sector needs Generation Z to remain profitable and relevant – just as they in turn need the experience and knowledge of boomers.
Generation Z has a different set of values, which is at least as important as that of previous generations. At the same time, we see a vulnerable generation, which is raised with the conviction that everything can be shaped and depends on individual effort. This neoliberal pattern of thinking places the responsibility entirely on the individual, with an increase in psychological problems as a result. How can you as a boomer or GenX “er recognize these challenges and work constructively with younger colleagues”? Awareness of this bias is the first step.
