Erwin is Chief Data Officer at the Netherlands Forensic Institute and program director of JusticeLink, the program developing a secure infrastructure for data sharing within the justice and security domain. With a background in digital and biometric science and experience in security, governance, and data analysis, he focuses on responsibly utilizing data for innovation, justice, and security.
Data is indispensable for policy and innovation within the government. When data is shared between institutions for scientific research, it becomes truly exciting. JusticeLink, an initiative of the NFI and WODC (together with TNO, SURF, the JenV Datalab, JenV CDO-office, and Justid), is building a secure, future-proof infrastructure and facilitates the secure sharing and analysis of sensitive data within the justice and security domain. This federated data system accelerates innovations in data science/AI and contributes to evidence-based policy. The ultimate goal? To contribute to combating crime and strengthening the rule of law.
