Barbara Baarsma is Chief Economist of PwC Netherlands and, in this role, also leads PwC’s Chief Economic Office. Since 2009, she has been Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Amsterdam. She holds several public and societal positions, including Chair of the Bank Council of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and membership in the Netherlands Committee for Entrepreneurship. Before joining PwC, Barbara held various positions, including at Rabobank.
In a world that is changing ever faster due to technological innovations, social dynamics and geopolitical uncertainty, the question arises as to how companies and regions can strengthen their strategic position. Traditional methods within separate ‘silos’ often offer insufficient support for sustainable growth. It is becoming increasingly clear that economic resilience and future-proofing stem from strong ecosystems: networks in which entrepreneurship, knowledge, innovation and companies actively reinforce each other.
