About the Topic

During this meeting, Joost van der Burg will walk you through CGI’s distinctive operating model. What makes this model successful for almost 50 years? How does CGI organize the evaluation and evolution of the model in an annual rhythm? In addition, he will discuss CGI’s corporate culture, in which every employee is a co-owner and teams enjoy a high degree of autonomy, without compromising local and global collaboration. This culture plays a crucial role in the success of the operating model.

Prof. Dr. Leen Paape, Professor of Corporate Governance at Nyenrode Business University, will reflect on CGI’s operating model from an academic perspective during the meeting. By quickly understanding the context of the IT and business consulting organization, Mr. Paape will sketch the bigger picture, after which the discussion can be raised to a higher level.

More on the subject

The operating model and the corporate culture are inextricably linked. CGI, a leading IT and business consulting company, believes in the power of working in small, multidisciplinary teams that operate in a customer- and results-oriented manner. These agile teams are responsible for the entire chain from developing new business to delivery, which prevents services from being sold that cannot be delivered. Joost van der Burg, Senior Vice-President and BU Leader Central & South Netherlands, will take you through the philosophy behind CGI’s business operations and how it contributes to value creation for both customers and employees.

The philosophy of Serge Godin, who founded CGI in 1976, goes hand in hand with putting customer thinking first. In the Netherlands, after the acquisition of Logica by CGI in 2012, this required a significant adjustment of the operating model, partly due to the critical questions that are characteristic of Dutch leaders. The transformation to small, customer-focused teams was therefore not without challenges. Yet Joost van der Burg advocates this approach, which has led to a significant increase in customer satisfaction: from a 6 to a 9 in recent years.
