The energy transition brings not only ecological benefits, but also economic opportunities. Yet the European competitive position is under pressure due to high energy prices. Vattenfall, a leading European energy company, contributes substantially to the energy transition by investing in sustainable energy sources such as wind farms, solar energy and battery technology.
Cindy Kroon, CEO of Vattenfall Netherlands, outlines a world in which the US and China are producing increasingly cheaper energy, while investments in sustainable energy in Europe are becoming increasingly expensive. Moreover, the willingness to pay for sustainable energy is already insufficient. To remain competitive as Europe, companies and governments must work together, think ahead, and remove obstacles (such as certain regulations): what is the green energy of the future, what investments are needed now, how do we finance them, and how can we implement quickly?
